Workout with a view
There are nearly 50 outdoor gyms in Cape Town, so Capetonians have no shortage of open-air facilities when they feel like some fresh air with their workout. Here are four of the most popular ones.
Sea Point promenade
Not only do you get a sea view and some open-air exercise, but if you’re out on a windy day, there will be cooling ocean spray added into the bargain. Another attraction of this spot, is the variety of people who hang out here, including paddlers and kayakers on their way to Bantry Bay, enthusiastic putt-putters testing their skills, dog walkers, tourists enjoying the view and more.
Location Corner of Beach and Three Anchor Bay Roads
Green Point Urban Park
Adjacent to the magnificent Metropolitan Golf Course, in the shadow of Cape Town Stadium, you’ll find one of the best public gardens and parks in the country. A legacy of the urban development initiatives that accompanied the 2010 FIFA World Cup, this superb public park offers a variety of things to see and do for all ages. Apart from the outdoor gym area, there’s a vast childrens’ play area, scores of walkways, waterways and benches, picnic areas, a biodiversity showcase and even a rosemary-lined maze. The park also offers outstanding wheelchair access and really does have something for everyone.

Surfer’s Corner, Muizenberg
Locals are known for bringing their own equipment to this exercise area in the South Peninsula. Many like cooling off after their workout with a dip in the sea, or a quick stand-up paddle-boarding session, followed by a coffee or a cocktail at one of the many restaurants dotted along the promenade.
